Band Member Information

Steel, The Show is a school band for SDSA students who were in STS large group arts or majors last year, and or signed up for this year as well as new students. They are encouraged to participate in out of school performances in order to advance in steel pan ability, but are not required. These performances are usually community or charity events separate from private engagements. Students must, however respect the pans and each other in order to perform.

Plenty Problems Entertainment is a business- licensed, out of school, private band which now recruits STS members based on one of the following criteria:

· Is a graduate of SDSA
· Has attended two summers of most practices
· Knows all the songs
· Has the desire to learn all songs, attended most summer practices in all of July and August 2005, and most performances in August and September 2005

Those who desire to be in Plenty Problems again or as a new member should as soon as possible:
· Learn all songs
· Demonstrate a consistent commitment to the band
· Attend Steel, the Show performances

If you or your child is not a Plenty Problems member since its reformation, you must consider this:
· Plenty Problems is now a business with good paying clients and contracts.
· Plenty Problems has monthly debts and scheduled performances; “Taking a break” is not an option for the survival of this business, unless it coordinates among all the other members’ schedules
· Plenty Problems is not excluding students as punishment or due to set rules; we simply must have a solid band whose members can each play all songs well together on a professional level for a professional price.
· For whatever the reason, students and parents choose to be or not to be in Plenty Problems by not attending; no one was asked to leave the band. If a member does not show up without communicating as such, the band has no option but to replace that member. Sorry, It’s just business.

If you want to be a paid member of Plenty Problems, you must meet two of the previously mentioned criteria. Currently, there are five students who have been paid at the rate $10.00 per hour per show including one-half hour set up and break down. (A two-hour show with breaks would pay $30.00 plus tips). CD sales go towards expenses of the band. Parents willing to carpool will receive a stipend for gas. Plenty problems currently has $10,000.00 in assets including $1000.00 in cash. All Steel, The Show debts have been paid. Those who have left the band and wish to return would be on probation without pay for three Plenty Problems performances. The existing members would then vote on their membership.
