Sea Witch-Leave to Plenty Problems

Plenty Problems will perform at Sea Witch alone this weekend for a few reasons: I will not be taking the bus which limits the band size.
Steel the show members have not practiced in at least two weeks, which makes it hard with microphones and a very large audience.
Finally, it probably will rain as well.
Hopefully soon Steel The Show will get back on track with regular practices

Equipment will be dropped off at 9:45AM at Thr Rehoboth bandstand Saturday morning for Plenty Problems to play at noon after the parade before the trophies. We will play again after the trophy ceremony.
The bus will then go to Cape henlopen state park pavillion for an 11:30 -12:30 show for Steel The Show and some Plenty Problems- Cancelled due to lack of help
After that Plenty Problems plays in the evening again on the bandstand at 6:15-7:15. Steel the show members playing at that time depends on getting some drums there without the bus. I will contact Steel, The Show members if needed.

We will leave SDSA at 8AM Saturday morning. Ocean View students could be at my house at 7:30AM. They should have khaki pants for the 15 minute performance, not shorts. Before and after, they can wear what they want. I have the band T-shirts.They should bring a lunch,snacks, and drinks as I don't know when or if we"ll be stopping along the way or availability once we are there.Also, we have six drivers so it may be hard to coordinate a single stopping point.I will bring a large cooler of extra drinks. They should have some money for dinner, though I hope to take care of it.We perform at 3:55PM at the 24th st. park in Virginia beach.Awards will be around 5PM. The winning band gets to play at 7 to 7:45PM. We will probably head home around 8PM to get back aroung Selbyville around 12:30. We may stay later if things go well for us. With cell phones we will keep in touch.

Break Practice

Practice will be Monday to Friday from 10AM to 2PM in Ocean View. From route 26, turn north(left if you are coming from the west) at the Ocean View light. At that intersection is Verizon, Delaware bank, and Oak square. Go past the Salt Pond light to Hickman's liquor store and turn right on Hickman Rd;it's just before Magnolia's. My driveway is called Panyard Alley on the left as the road bends about a quarter mile from the store.
From route one north, take the first light after the Indian River inlet-Fred Hudson Rd. Turn right at the Salt Pond Light, and then right at Hickman's.
I asked students to bring a lunch and drinks the first day or two, and carpool if you can. If I have to meet some people at a pick up point, I will.

Friday and flex practices are going well. The goal is to have an in-school functioning band by Christmas, but at this rate it may be much sooner. I don't however want the band taking on performances outside of school. That, trust me is hard work, and we need to concentrate on our sound as a new band first. SDSA's Steel, The Show is rebuilding, but in- school flex time is not enough, and doesn't include 5th graders. There will be after school practice therefore every Friday from 3-5PM except the 26th, which will go to only 4PM. This is for 5th -8th graders. Former players will come over from I.R. to help.

I have ordered some sticks, but all students should attempt to get their own sticks on line once they determine the pan they want to play.

There will be no shows for most SDSA students until Steel, The Show can play without outside help.

High school players have a show leaving from SDSA Friday after practice, and the 2 Dewey Beach weddings Saturday night.

Saturday Small Band-Sunday update Again-New Show and time change

I'll be leaving Saturday at 4:30 to head for Bishopville. I can stop at Hocker's, Roxanna, and Selbyville if necessary. I am stopping at route 54 and Hudson Rd.(? there was a service station there. The road leads into Bishopville) at 5:05 or so.The party goes from 6-10ishPM, but there will be plenty of breaks and food.
This is for the high school students, not SDSA students.
Sunday morning at Sea Colony is cancelled. We just got asked to play on McKinley St. (Bayside ) in Dewey Beach for the Lions Club Community Day 10:30AM-12:30 though.They are offering a nice donation with food and drinks. This and Fenwick is for everyone,though the small band players can probably handle it. The last party is small band-details coming.

This is a charity type event for anyone who can make it 1-3PM. I think the church is right there in town. I'm leaving at noon to set up at 12:30. Next week (see schedule below) is full Tuesday-Saturday. As sports are starting up, we will have a harder time finishing up this summer.
I'm planning practice from the 18th to the 22th (for a 2008-9 SDSA band) 10-2 with lunch and car pooling. Attendence is critical, so spread the word. If this doesn't work, it's back to juggling.
That week, we have Fenwick on Tuesday and the Hispanic Festival on Sunday-that's all for the week.
Then a show in Bishopville on Saturday the 30th,and 2 on the 31st-nothing Labor Day Monday.

Cripple Creek Final Plan

Cripple Creek will be a one van show-"bon Fire" small band: AP,AG,JS,ZF,DS, and KM ONLY
Please meet at cripple creek range by 4:30. We will play around 5 to 6:10, and then quickly pack and go to Sea Colony; Libby will drive four players, I'll drive the drums.

In a compromise to cripple creek , 2 players(AP,AG) will stay there and play "catch 54 style" until 8:30, if agreed upon.Robbie will not arrive at 7PM to fill in/experiment as a trio. There will be no more then three players. Give me a call if your not getting it.

There is a short Saturday night Performance in Lewes Downtown area (farther north )by taking Pilot town Road(?) along the canal to The University of DE. Verden Center. I will already be there with the van with drums. Someone tell me before 8AM whether I take the gold bass or another.
You need to be at my house to leave at 4PM to set up at 5 and play from 5:30-6:15 only. There will be food. Mrs. Syphad will be driving her van-that's Aaron, Kyle, Alex, Zach and??. I still have two extra tenors in the van if the same Sea Colony people want to meet there.

Heritage House Update

The Heritage House is an assisted living facility for the elderly. It means a lot to these people when we visit(we've been to the one in Milford)
I will now be leaving my house with the bus at four to stop at Hocker's at 4:15. I'll stop at Bodies in Dagsboro around 4:35 and Millsboro WaWa close to 5PM(Rite Aid is better since it's the side I'll be on heading north to Dover). We play from 6:30 to 8PM meaning we'll be back to Millsboro around 9:30. As before I want those who attended some practice last week.

WELCOME TO STEEL CAMP

The purpose of this day camp is to introduce SDSA students to the basics of pan playing and it's culture as well as some percussion and rythm techniques.Hopefully enough students will want to make a committment to join Steel, The Show, so that we'll have several songs ready to perform at the start of the 2008-9 school year.

You may come as much as you wish over the 3 week schedule, and continue to practice with the band through August. The practices start Tuesday July 1st and run until the 20th. The only days we will not be together are Friday July 4th, Saturday the 5th, and Wednesday the 16th. Practices run from 10AM to 2PM. You do not have to stay the whole time if you have other committments.

The camp has no cost, but you should bring a lunch, drinks, sun screen and maybe bug spray. I will have some coolers and water. We are located in Cedar Neck, Ocean View on my property of 22 acres in a wooded area; we will be playing outdoors.

From route 1 north, cross the Indian River inlet bridge at turn right at the first light-Fred Hudson Rd.At the end, which is a light turn right onto Cedar Nect road. Go about a mile until you see Hikman's package store and turn right before Magnolia's Restaurant onto Hikman Rd. Go about a 1/4 mile until the road bends and turn left onto Panyard Alley,my gravel driveway. You may have to yield to other cars.
From the west, you should take route 26 past millville Food Lion and Giant towards Bethany Beach. Turn left at the Ocean View light-Verizon is on the left and Oak Square; Delaware Bank and Mariner's Bethel Church is on the right. proceed past Fred Hudson Rd. and follow the same directions above.

Students will receive a hard copy of the band's history and purpose, a biography of the instructors and a schedule of the band practices and performances. Parents may stay as long as they wish. We will have to work out car pooling arrangements the first couple of days, but I am willing to pick up students at Millsboro WAWA the first couple of days at 9AM and drop off at 3PM.

I need to know who's going to the Shorebirds; this is our biggest event ever!

Wednesday Morning is Safe Kids Day at Sussex Tech in Georgetown. They want us to play before it starts? I'll be leaving my house at 7:00AM and can stop in Dagsboro along the way-7:20. Hopefully we'll play from about 8- 8:45.
We have to hurry out to get to Milton for the Shell Day Care Graduation from 9-11AM

Thursday is our first Sea Colony Bon Fire from 7-9PM on the beach in front of the Georgetown building(south of Edgewater). I will choose a small band permenant band for the whole summer:
Jung, Aaron, Kyle, Zach,Alex,Aaron Moore,Joey P. ( Ben and Joey K.-if I could get you Tuesdays at village of Fenwick, or both Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Friday night is a fund raise at cripple creek with a 6:30-7:30PM play time.Set up is at the Clubhouse entrance at 6. I will leave my house at 5:45

Saturday is a big day starting with a 2-4PM block party at the SandyBranch Development just outside of Selbyville on route 54. I will leave at 1PM to set up at 1:30PM.Then on to the stadium to play from 6-7PM and enjoy the game. We'll play between a couple of innings too.I have 30 tickets,which is to cover 15 players and 1 parent per player. Let me know your intentions.

Blue Gold 5K Run ,Lewes Irish Eyes. Leaving my house at 6:45AM or meet me there to set up at 7:30AM
Kid Fest, Harrington Fairgrounds leaving Lewes around 9:30 to set up at 10:30 and play at 11AM. We can hang out there for awhile until playing at the Bee Health Center off route 24 around 5, seting up at 4:30.People not going in the morning may play at the health center, but you'd have to get there. If people have to meet at Harrington or leave from there, that's okay too.Health center play time is 5-6:30.
From the health Center we will go to a wedding reception in Gumboro with a small band; some people may need to be picked up from the Health Center.

You may stay after school with me, and we'll set up at Bishopville at 5:30 to play from 6-8PM.

People going to Wilmington should be at my house at 8:30AM. We'll play from 11:15-12:15 and hope to get back to Ocean View around 2:30. We'll set up at Sea Colony and then head to Assateague. This is Dillon, Aaron P., Kyle, Alex, Zach, Joey P. and me. We'll be the Assateague at 6 and over to Ocean View to play 7:30 to 9:30. Take 113 to Rt 589 (Racetrack Road) Follow that all the way to Rt 50 East. Take Rt 50 all the way into west ocean city. You will pass a Walmart on your right and then a few miles up you will pass a WaWa. After the wawa you will come to an intersection the White Marlin Outlets will be on your left hand side. At that light (Stephen Decatur Hwy or Rt 611) make a right.Follow all the way till you see a driving range on your Left right after that make a Left onto Eagles Nest Road. Follow that road all the way around (you will see an airport on you left) til you start to see water. The driveway to the house is on the left. You will see a valet parking sign and flowers. The house number is 12591 Eagles Nest Road The house phone number is 410-213-0589If you have any problems with directions you can call that number and ask for Peg or Jerry. They are the homeowners.

Everyone else needs to be at Sea Colony Edgewater House-ocean side, between 5:30-5:45 to play at 6. Just before 7 you'll get pizza. You'll get a song list and break schedule. We could use some parents to chaparone as I won't be there most of the time.

Permission slips will go out Tuesday for a morning performance at Howard T. Ennis on Wednesday. We leave at 8:30AM and will be back to SDSA for lunch.Mostly eighth graders will be going for their last school performance while at SDSA.

I will stay after school Wednesday for a short practice and a stop for food before playing at Milton from 7-9PM. A can pick up/drop off students along the way.

Thursday is the 8th grade Transition ceremony at SDSA. We will play before and after the show with 6th and 7th graders only playing in the beginning and end of the ceremony.6:30-8:30PM.

We need all the band members possible to play Saturday night from 6-9PM at The Sea Colony Edgewater House. Students will need to go directly there at 5:30PM as I will be at another
performance. Food will be provided.

Saturday, June 14th is also a very busy day, but we will not need to have two separate bands. Students may come to one or two of the performances if not all.

Tuesday April 22nd, Tony Cezair will arrive for one week to hear and advise the band, teach and arrange and tune if neccesary. We will have practices from 2 to 6PM at SDSA for any interested players Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. We still have at least 2 shows Saturday and need two bands. We have no school Friday, but I do , so we'll see about a daytime practice if I can be around. We need both young and experienced players for a new phase of Plenty Problems.

We will be playing at North Laurel Elementary Friday at 1:30, so we'll be leaving SDSA after lunch around 12:15. IR and SMS players welcome. We'll be packed up and ready to leave Laurel around 3.

We will then have sometime on our hands before having dinner in Seaford, and then playing around 6:45 to 7:30-packed up at 8 and on the way towards my house.

If you can't make both shows,you probably won't be able to go. I could however stop at route 9 and 20 ( Hardscrapple)around 3:15-3:30 to pick up or drop off students.

Those adults who have not paid in full should decide whether to pay before we go or have cash readily available there. Monday was Millville in Sussex, Tuesday was Dover in Kent, and today was Newark in New Castle. If we count Saturday, O.C. in Worcester, that's a lot for the end of the year. We have had a good ending for 2007. The band has sounded great in any size, and we've made a lot of people very happy. Saturday night- a homeowners group in Ocean City( 99st).I would like a "Mango 's" type band, taking the van and another driver: Bass- Jung , Aaron, Mitch, Drew ?,and Alex, and me. 7:30-9:30PM-food is provided. We should leave around 6:30 at the latest.
Tuesday- Dover Masons leaving after school to play from 7-8PM with school bus . We'll stop for food on the way.-probably won't be back until 10PM.
Wednesday day trip to Newark leaving at 7 from my house or SDSA at 7:30-your choice.We'll be back by bus dismissal.

The center is off Kent avenue which is the last light and right turn on route 26 before route one in Bethany or the first left turn and light once turning on 26 from route one. Go south on Kent Avenue to the light at the tennis courts entrance-a right turn. Go west through several stop signs to a circle-the fitness center is on the left. We will play till around 11AM.

Trinidad and Tobago trip was approved Tuesday for January 25th-February 5th-16 people are going-no more. Reservations are being processed now. Parents: I need your cost $1,500 made payable to Plenty Problems ASAP, or at least $ 1000 to cover 3 nights in Tobago and plane fare.

Thinking like a Bass Player

The shows today are on regardless of rain.

Sea Witch is a big show tonight leaving my house around 5:15PM, and we always need a big band. Unfortunately we only have one bass player again like most of the summer.

We own 4 basses, yet the new idea is that we only need one bass player. Between 3 bass players we get the job of one. Yet 3 bass players want to go to Trinidad even though 1 is enough per show? That sounds very expensive. Logic says that we should only take one bass player to Trinidad. Three bass players who each come to about 40 percent of the shows can't get a free ride to Tobago. So how you choose 1 out of 3. I guess we take the person who attends the most shows. What do you think? I'll let you know how it adds up. This goes for guitar as well.

The group who wanted us to play Wednesday in unable to do so now, so we won't be in the Milford parade. We however be in the Georgetown parade in December.

We need a small band Saturday morning to play at Bayside off route 54 east Selbyville at about 9AM till 11 at the latest. This is a Breast Cancer benefit walk/run.We should leave my house at 8AM.

Sea Witch is still on that night from 6:15 to 7PM. Please let me know your availability before Thursday afternoon.

IMPORTANT:
I need a committment either in writing or verbally to me ASAP if you want to go to Tobago and Trinidad January 26th to February 5th by the end of this week.You are elible if you attended at least half of the performances this summer. The band will make exception to 8th graders who have been in the band a couple years, and have not gone before. Otherwise there is no way the band can pay the $1,500. The Buddy walk on Rehoboth boardwalk is this Saturday at the bandstand. They want us to play 3 one-half hour sets:9:15AM-9:45, 10:05-10:35, and 11:30 to12:00. I want to begin setting up at 8:45, so I'll be leaving my house at 8:20AM.

Next Wednesday, we are to play the Milford Halloween Parade from 6-8PM. Stay after school if you wish to attend unless you live in the Milford area.

Next Saturday the 27th is the Sea Witch Festival again at the Rehoboth bandstand 6:15-7PM

Sunday the 4th of October is a run at Camp Barnes which we'll play near the finish line from 1-2:30PM

We'llbe playing Saturday morning at BeeBee Emergency Center and Wellness on Route 24 at 11:00AM. I'll leave at 9:30 to set up by 10:30. I can go 113 to 24 if people need a ride; otherwise I will go route 1.
Saturday night from 5-7 we will play at Light The Night as we have the last 3 years.It is by the north end of the Rehoboth boardwalk by the Henlopen hotel. There's usually a lot of free stuff. I need to leave around 3:45 to 4PM from my house. Anyone who wants to stay all day with the bus is welcome to, and we'll get food along the way.

CD RELEASE PARTY THIS SATURDAY

From 4PM till whenever this Saturday October 6th, I will be having a practice/party/reunion/CD release gathering for anyone and family in the band or anyone and family who has ever been in the band. Fans of the band may come as well. Stay long or just stop by, but please come.

It will be similar to the party we had when we recorded the first CD, but this time the two new CD's are done. I'll have the main course if you can try to bring a side dish .I'll have some drinks, but you may want to bring your own favorite beverage.

Every family will get a copy of both new CD's( or one if you already have the first). I'll have some fun things to do besides chances for the old and new bands to play again together.This is a celebration of over four years of Steel,The Show for everyone no matter what your history with the band may have been. Everyone has helped in some way to make the band what it is today.

We'll be leaving my house at 3:45 for 24th Street Ocean City Maryland. We will set up a small band on the beach for the wedding at 5PM. The rest of the equipment will be set up in the VFW on the same street. After we play on the beach, we'll carry every thing to the VFW , and play the reception as a larger band from 5:30 to 6:30PM. We should be back to my house by 8PM at the latest.

Saturday's performances are in Lincoln and Cape Henlopen. Right now we have no bass players, but every other drum is covered.
I will be leaving at Noon to 113. I can pick up anyone in Dagsboro, Millsboro, or Georgetown along the way between 12:25-12:45
The Lincoln address is 14 South Shore Drive, Lincoln, DE. 19960. From 113 or 1, it is north of 16; looks like Fitzgeralds/Johnson Rd off 113 or Pine Haven off 1. 1:45-3:35.
We leave Lincoln at 3:45 to get to Cape Henlopen State Park to set up at 4:15/4:30. We'll leave by 6:15; back at my house by 7. This is the Delaware Democratic Convention, and is very important; please try to be there. I asked for your committment 2 months ago.
Next Thursday evening August 30th is at Milford's Heritage Home.
Toll Brother's on Saturday the 1st is Cancelled, but we play in Bethany Beach that evening.
